Choosing a spiritual business coach is major step in any entrepreneur’s life.

And when you don’t understand much about marketing or you haven’t managed a business before, making a decision can feel a little overwhelming.

Sadly, in recent years, I’ve seen an increase in misleading messaging when people are promoting their business or marketing coaching services to spiritual entrepreneurs. On top of that, many of my clients come to me after they burnt themselves with such BS and misleading “experts”.

So the reason why this article was born is because I simply had enough. I want to give you some guidance so you know what to look out for. I don’t want another impact-driven soul falling for overpromising claims only to experience deep disappointment.

COMMON RED FLAGS OF SPIRITUAL BUSINESS SUPPORT

As unfortunately the spiritual industry became oversaturated with so called “experts” it’s perfectly normal to feel confused when trying to choose a spiritual business coach. So many wild claims, so many awards, so many titles, so many “exclusive” and “secret formulas”. Most of them are empty. here’s how you can spot them.

🚩RED FLAG #1 – many many, many “awards” and titles

International best-seller, winner of, runner up, etc. If an Instagram Bio and a website’s About page is filled mainly with that, they’re likely hiding the lack of real knowledge. I get approached at least 2x a month to purchase those awards. Yes, most of them are not real, you can buy them.

Over the years, apparently I’ve “won”: most impactful entrepreneur, number 1 female coach in the holistic industry, “most recognized spiritual community leader (not even sure how they made that one up 😂) and so many more. These awards can cost anywhere from $500 up to a few thousand depending on which option you choose.

However! There are legit awards out there. But if you see a ton of these titles and no organic media mentions then it’s likely to be a purchased win and a big ego boost for that person.

🚩RED FLAG #2 – generic and vague results

When a business coaching or marketing mentoring program offers you VAGUE results like:

➡️ Unleash your potential
➡️ Step into your power
➡️ Discover your light
➡️ Find your tribe

that’s a clear indicator you’re going to get mainly life coaching or a motivational push but NOT business improvement support. When someone has real business and marketing experience, they’ll give you specifics such as:

✅ communicate clearly what your business does
✅ optimize your pricing model
✅ refine your niche to become more relatable
✅ improve your copy to be found on Google

And when a program can do BOTH types of results for you, that’s the real sweet spot. My clients get to experience the best of both worlds though my spiritual business mentoring program.

🚩RED FLAG #3 – pressure to buy on the discovery call

Sadly, this aggressive sales technique reached the spiritual community as well. When you are having a “getting to know each other” call with a potential spiritual business or marketing coach, it’s perfectly okay if they try to sell you something. That’s what the call is for.

The problem is when they start pushing you to sign up immediately or within 24-48 hours to qualify for a certain discount. When choosing a spiritual business coach, you should never feel like you’re being rushed or pressured. You might feel an instant yes on the call and you pay anyway which is great (it happens to me as well), but don’t allow this sales tactic to win you over.

You’ll never hear me sell my services aggressively. I use my free alignment call to get a feel for the client, check out their true intentions and their energies. If something feels off I’ll tell them we’re not a good fit. I also pay proper attention to what they’re telling me so I can recommend the most suitable solution.

🚩RED FLAG #4 – wild claims about fast results

example of a red flag when choosing spiritual business support

You’ve probably seen these type of headlines:

“Hit 90k in 90 days starting from 0”
“20 new high-ticket clients in 10 days or less”

These things CAN work. It’s called a sprint in the business word. But for them to work well, you need a solid foundation, a team to support you with a long list of tasks that are coming your way and you need money to throw at paid advertising or investing into software.

These DO NOT work for someone who’s just starting a spiritual business or who’s struggling to have a steady flow of clients. If that’s you, please don’t go with these programs when choosing a spiritual business coach. They will make you feel more overwhelmed and they usually come with a 5 figure price tag.

And most importantly, these programs are usually teaching you unethical sales techniques and focus on the get-rich-fast scheme vs building something meaningful in the long term.

🚩RED FLAG #5 – no mention of work experience

This one should be the obvious one yet it’s very easy to overlook it. Especially when the marketing copy is so shiny and glamorous that it blinds you. When you are on the lookout for business help, make sure you choose someone who has real-life business experience.

They don’t have to have 20+ years but if you work with a 19 year old who’s still at uni, don’t expect valuable insights about how to strengthen your business. However, this 19 year old person could be awesome at running your social media accounts so if that’s what you need help with, choose someone who lives & breathes social media.

In my case, I first got into business improvement when working in the banking sector in the UK until 2014 and then I pivoted to marketing when I left the country and moved to Malta. Since then I had director level roles, worked with multiple startups and I even managed to burn myself out as a CEO 😄 You can check out my professional background here in case you’re curious.

But back to you: depending on what you need help with in your spiritual business, please make sure you pick someone who has the relevant knowledge or experience.

🚩RED FLAG #6 – not being on a spiritual development journey

Now, this one might not be so obvious so let me explain. You could work with the best marketing mentor but if they don’t understand what chakra alignment is for example, how can they help you communicate what you really do for your clients?

Marketing a business within the spiritual industry is very specific. What you’re eventually selling is you. Your knowledge, your gifts, your energy, your wisdom, your healing skills. So when choosing a spiritual business coach, make sure they understand what you do or at least check what experiences they have with spiritual coaches, healers or mediums.

What I love the most about working with my clients is that we often end up having mindbending conversations as we share similar experiences so that we truly get each other. Work with someone who will also get you the same way because the whole process will be a lot more fun that way!

🚩RED FLAG #7 – your intuition saying NO

This is the MOST important one. If something feels off, walk away. Let the other person know that you’re going to listen to your intuition. You’re a highly intuitive being so don’t ignore your inner whisper when looking for aligned business support.

I turned down clients before who were ready to pay, simply because I had a bad feeling about them. It goes against my values to support someone who might end up scamming or deceiving others.

FINAL TIP FOR CHOOSING A SPIRITUAL BUSINESS COACH

Know what kind of support you need. Marketing is a big world, and sales is a whole other one. Narrow down your support needs and look for someone who specializes in that. Or if you need a more overall hand-holder, look for business mentors or marketing mentors. Mentors (like me) are more hands-on and they give you specific advice and actions to execute.

And in case you’re not sure what kind of help you want, I shared some tips on how to understand what support you need in this TikTok:
